Notification frustration or notification harmony? It’s up to you!

Not configuring your personal notifications in Microsoft 365 is like not adjusting the driver’s seat of your new car. You will arrive at your destination in the end but both tired, bruised and irritated

Are you a hard working ant and feel like you just want to be able to do your job without being disturbed by anything/anyone else?

Some of us want notifications for most things. Some of us think that notifications are mostly just annoying and make us lose focus. I guess we can agree that the need for notifications depends on one’s level of need for control in relation to personal stress threshold? I guess we can also agree that notifications are needed?

Something that most of us probably recognize is the colleague or colleagues who, regardless of whether they send private team chat messages, write posts in team channels or write posts in Viva Engage, always mention everyone or many and thus push notifications in the belief that everything (or at least most) they publish is vital and that everyone must get their information.

Not everything (or everyone) is as easy to control, influence or fix, but you can at least set up the notification settings that suits your preferences.

I would go so far as to say that proper notification settings are actually critical to how we experience the collaboration tools that our organization uses. Therefore, it is extremely important that everyone actually makes sure that their notification settings are tailored to their personal needs and preferences instead of blaming the tools (or their colleagues). Below you will find links to information pages/articles that show you in an easy-to-understand way how to configure notification settings for the Microsoft 365 services/tools you use most during your workday.

The information above is about how to configure your preferred notifications in the services/tools. Don’t forget to make the corresponding settings for your mobile app and desktop client (Windows). Information on how to do this can be found here.
